A year ago, I began reading about real estate and
residual income. My desire to become an entrepreneur was born. As I read, the term network marketing and its synonym multi-level marketing (MLM) kept popping up. The authors of these buzz words didn’t bother explaining or defining them. They assumed that I, their eager reader, knew their meaning.

I asked around, but no one had a clue as to what network marketing was. Thus began my quest to discover what I could about MLM, since its proponents boast that anyone could start a business for as little as a few hundred dollars.

Finally, I struck gold. I stared open mouthed at my computer screen. The name of the network marketing company jogged an old memory. In high school, I had known a young man who belonged to this company. A couple of times, he came to pick me up for a date, and before we left, he would clean my mother’s stove or refrigerator, showing her the miracles of his product. His goal, I assume, was to make money and dazzle me with his entrepreneur qualities. I was humiliated because my mother was taking advantage of him to get her kitchen cleaned and because this boy was embarrassing me - I wanted to go to a movie or to a party, and he was cleaning my mother’s appliances. Network marketing or sometimes known as Multi Level Marketing (MLM) is actually a good business. The market for this business is so big and the prospect is good. One thing that we have to keep in mind is that not all of the MLM company will be successful.

Four things about MLM that we have to know:

1. Research the company first

You can research the company profile at google website and type in the company name. Look for the information about the company as much as you can and ask your friends or people who knows about MLM. Usually the company that is spam only stays no more than 5 years. The company that is not a spam usually belongs to a Better Business Bureau and US Chambers.

2. No Mentor

Most of the MLM company do not provide mentor on how to do the business. Basically they just telling you about the company profile and the level of commission that we could attain. Mentor is playing a quite significant role in the business especially for people who knows a little or none about internet business. From the mentor, amateur people can be guided step-by-step on how to do the business, where to do the promotions and how to take profit from the internet. The idea of using a network-marketing program to generate extra income has taken North America by storm. More and more people are looking around, attempting to find a real winner.

The problem is that network marketing companies are sprouting up all over the place and there’s just too many of them to keep up with. This makes the choice of which program to join a frustrating and time consuming process. Before you join any network marketing company, go through this checklist.

Think about the product. Is it a product that you would use regularly, and freely recommend to your friends? Is it lower prices, more convenient to use than similar products available elsewhere? Finally what about delivery? How much time lapses between the time the order is placed and when the order is received?

Find out as much about the company as you can. Be wary of chain letters, pyramid scams, and ridiculous claims about how much you can make. Be sure to find out exactly what you’re getting for your sign up fee. Make sure the company provides you with professional sales materials and that they’re reasonably priced. If you’re involved with a company that makes its money from the training material that isn’t a good sign. Find out about the company’s financial backing and corporate officers-are they in this as full time professional sales people? Network Marketing Companies abound by the thousands. If you type in network marketing into any of the major search engines, you will get thousands upon thousands of results. A lot of people have joined network-marketing programs and made lots of money from their efforts. Anybody with ambition and energy can probably find a company that suits them and join it and eventually attain financial freedom.

However, you must remember that this is a business and you must put forth effort to achieve your goals. Otherwise you may wind up just barely breaking even.
Here are some things to consider before you sign on the dotted line or submit that form…

First, be sure of the Network Marketing Company you hook up with. Make sure that it is all that it claims to be. Make sure that you are actually promoting a product or service. If you get paid more for recruiting than you do for selling, that should make you raise your eyebrows. Make sure that the company is stable and that it will not only make regular payments to you, but that it will ship its merchandise to your customers and that it is going to be around for a long time. You just joined this wonderful new MLM and you’re rearing to go! Then you think… go where and how?? Here are 10 ways to promote your MLM that’ll get you started on the way to your first recruits

1. Free classifieds - Though not as great as they once were, if your MLM program is free to join you will get some takers. The trick is to keep posting often and keep your ad up there.

2. Ezine Ads - These are cost effective and very targeted so you don’t waste your advertising dollars. Use classified ads if you have a small budget and don’t place any ads in ezines you haven’t read.

3. Your Optin List - Even if you have a small optin list, this is a great source for your first MLM affiliates. If you don’t have one start one right away.

Leadership, Visualization, Goal-setting, blah, blah…

All network marketers have heard that jargon at one time or another. But you know what? It’s just that - Jargon.

When you share with your team, the lessons you have learnt while building your business - that’s Leadership.

When you imagine that new car or house on the beach, that you’re going to buy next year with the income from your business - now that’s Visualization.

And when you plan exactly how you’re going to go about getting that new car or house - well, that’s Goal-setting.

It’s that simple…

And yet people complicate it so much that they write entire books, and have entire courses to teach you these “skills.”

But they’re missing the whole point, really. Because network marketing is really about customers.

Think about it.

Why do companies get into network marketing? DUH. To sell products, of course!

And why do they choose to sell their products through network marketing?

Because network marketing is really the most efficient way of selling products.

After all it’s all about people selling (or recommending) products they USE to their own network of friends and acquaintances. To people who TRUST them.

Have you ever wondered what the difference is? MLM operators claim they’re not operating a pyramid scheme. Matrix and “forced matrix” operators claim that what they have is better than MLM. So what are the differences?

Pyramid Schemes:

Pyramid Schemes are illegal in the USA, and probably abroad. We all know how these schemes work, or at least get the jist of the idea. A person (the originator) starts by sending a message to several people. Usually people he/she knows. The message in some round about way, will tell everyone to send him $5 or so…and then send the message to someone else. All the while adding names to the list, and each new recipient must send money to the first person, second person…etc

There are a million variations of the Pyramid Scheme, but the main attribute that define a pyramid scheme ( also known as chain letter) is that there is no product, it’s just people sending money. The term “Pyramid Scheme” is derived from the fact that it starts with one and the size of those involved increases as you move towards the bottom. On paper, it looks like the shape of a triangle, or pyramid.

Multi Level Marketing:

How is MLM different from a pyramid scheme? After all, on paper any MLM looks like a pyramid in reality right? The differences are very simple. In MLM there is a product being sold. Income is generated from “commissions”. It’s actually a pyramid scheme, except that the participants get something back…regardless of whether the people they refer actually pay for something…

In MLM, the participant always gains from their investment. The catch is in the value of the product that the participant receives. This is the reason that MLM is so big on the internet. Because, information can have a monetary value, and it cost the distributor nothing. So ebooks, software, newsletters…etc… these are the most common products used in MLM. Is success possible in network marketing (MLM)? Many say it is a rip-off. And if you talk to someone who has been burned by a bad company or sponsor, you will hear a lot of negative things. And it is true that there are bad companies out there and many distributors who are playing the “numbers game” and making quick money off new sign-ups.
